Jim (AM BPharm MClinPharm BCOP AdvPracPharm FSHP) commenced work in cancer pharmacy practice in 1989 soon after completing his BPharm degree. In 1998, he successfully completed the inaugural US Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP), re-certifying in 2006, 2013 and 2021. In 2004, he was awarded Fellowship to the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA), and in 2005 completed his Master of Clinical Pharmacy. In 2015, the Australian Pharmacy Council credentialed him as an Advanced Practice Pharmacist. In 2019, he was admitted as a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for service to oncology pharmacy as a clinician, and to professional associations.

Jim has been an active member of many professional organisations, including the SHPA Committee of Specialty Practice in Oncology and the Cancer Pharmacists Group of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia. He has been involved in the publication of professional standards of practice for Cancer Pharmacists as well as guidelines for the safe delivery of cancer therapies. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at local, national and international conferences.
